The old way of professional practice management no longer works for you. Maybe it never did.
But you’re still stuck in the past because:
- Overcoming your firm’s growing pains requires regular crisis management.
- You’ve outgrown your old role. But you haven’t yet defined your new role.
- Ongoing duties consume your days. There’s no time to carve out a vision to move forward.
- You need a change plan, to overcome inevitable obstacles, manage and motivate the team and assess the adequacy of existing resources.
- There are early signs of resistance to doing things differently. It will be a challenge to update what’s become an outdated or legacy culture.
- You lack a model for the way you wish to practice, to grow as a leader and to influence with impact.
You’re not just a professional. You’re a leader, an entrepreneur, a maverick, an innovator, a disruptor. And even if you have partners, associates or managers, at times running a professional practice can be unnerving, isolating and rife with uncertainty. Who do you go to with sensitive matters? Often the biggest questions of the day are confidential. They take a back seat to servicing clients all day, every day and then they can keep up at night.
While I have amassed many credentials and have been writing and speaking across North America, as a tireless advocate of the power of strategy and authenticity in practice development, my true understanding of the issues and opportunities stems from countless, privileged discussions with professionals just like you. 17 years of lawyers, architects, consultants and other professionals sharing their most promising opportunities and challenging obstacles. We put our heads together on practical, authentic, strategic plans for them to move towards their goals, from how to make it rain, to giving effective feedback, delegating efficiently and managing clients.

While the issues and ideas we discuss in our coaching sessions may be complex or challenging, the process to move forward is straightforward, practical and solution oriented:
- Initial consultation – If you’d like to learn more about how coaching can help you to meet your goals for your practice, I invite you to book an initial consultation, without fee or commitment. On this call (or video meeting), we will discuss your specific situation, objectives and challenges. I will provide an overview of our process, timeframe and expectations.
- Discovery call – For practice managers, firm owners and individual professionals, we can often outline steps to get started at the initial consultation. However, if we are onboarding a group of professionals, a follow up discovery call (or video meeting) is often required to further customize the process.
- Coaching stream recommendations – After our initial consultation (and discovery call, if needed), I will provide recommendations for a coaching stream aligned with your objectives. The frequency of coaching meetings will depend on the urgency of your action plans and the timeframe needed for you to implement ideas.
- Begin your clarifying conversations – There may be preparatory questions for you to respond to in advance of our first meeting. Or you may be asked to formalize your challenges, goals and questions. Expect to receive homework regularly, along the way! This will set you up to make the most of our time together, to put the solutions we discuss into play in the workplace and to resolve obstacles, in real time.
- Start moving towards your target – At regular intervals throughout our coaching engagement, we will revisit your original goals to assess progress and fine tune as needed.
Book a consultation to learn more about developing a coaching program to support your goals for your small to mid-sized law, consulting, architecture or other professional practice.
